A look at the young and dynamic Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen’s Achievements

Max Emilia Verstappen, son of the former F1 driver, Jos Verstappen was born in 30 September 1997. The racing heritage runs in his veins. When he was just 16 years old, Max Verstappen joined the Red Bull Junior team and was fielded as the 2015 race driver for Toro Rosso. At the 2015 Austrian Grand Prix when Verstappen was just aged 17, he became the youngest driver in the history of Formula One racing series.

Just in a period of two weeks after he claimed the record of being the youngest driver in the history of the racing series, Max also purported another record for being Formula One`s youngest points-scorer with seventh place in Malaysia. At the Spanish Grand Prix, when he was 18 and in his debut season, Max Verstappen was fielded into the Red Bull lineup, where he would produce a bizarre performance that led to his first F1 win in spite of becoming the sport`s youngest race winner.

In the next four seasons, Max Verstappen emerged as a formidable title contender, solidifying his place as a major star and a regular race winner. In the 2020 edition, Max finished third in the driver`s championship, finishing on the podium 11 times from the 12 races. This propelled the rising star for title contention in the following season and rang the bell for what would be his first world championship.

With the much-needed momentum from the 2020 bout, Verstappen claimed his first grand prix win at Monte Carlo. A superb US Grand Prix win in October 2021, was succeeded seven days later by his third Mexican Grand Prix victory and this was enough to propel him to his championship bid. Whilst it proved to be an undisputed path to championship glory for Max Verstappen, it was the sudden outburst of the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton which posed to dampen Verstappen`s dreams of being crowned the champ.

The season finale in Abu Dhabi, saw Verstappen go toe to toe with Lewis Hamilton as they were level on points. This would ring the alarm of a battle of the century featuring the seven-time world champion looking to claim his eighth, a record-setting statistic whereas on the other hand, a rising young and dynamic, very consistent Red Bull driver who would stop at nothing to lay his hands on the crown. It was on the last lap of the race that Max Verstappen would overtake Hamilton after a fierce and closely contested battle thereby claiming his first driver`s world championship. All in all, Max led 50.2% of all race laps (652 laps) which was more than double the number of laps led by his closest rival Lewis Hamilton.

The Red Bull driver also set a new record following his win at the Mexican Grand Prix, as he became the first driver in F1 history to rack up 14 victories in a single season. In his time as a Formula One driver, Verstappen has been able to win the Dutch Sportsman of the Year, the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy, the FIA Personality of the Year, the FIA Rookie of the Year, Autosport Rookie of the Year, as well as FIA action of the year. The 24-year-old, Verstappen also won his second successive world driver’s championship in the 2022 edition. He scored his second grand slam at the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and has won 35 Grand Prix Wins, 20 pole positions, 77 most podium finishes, and 21 fastest laps. Max Verstappen signed a contract extension keeping him at Red Bull until 2028.
