Fastest 2023 F1 Laps thus far

Which drivers have achieved the highest number of fastest lap points in F1 2023?

Since its reintroduction in 2019, F1 drivers who finish in the top 10 of a race can earn an additional point by recording the fastest lap of the Grand Prix. This rule has added excitement to the closing stages of races as teams compete for valuable points in the World Championship titles. In F1 2022, Max Verstappen recorded the highest number of fastest laps in the season with five. Let's take a look at the fastest laps and points earned so far in the 2023 season.

Bahrain Grand Prix:

The first fastest lap of the season was achieved by an unexpected driver, Zhou Guanyu of Alfa Romeo. However, since Zhou finished in P16, he did not earn an extra point as this reward is reserved for drivers in the top 10. Pierre Gasly of Alpine lost out on the extra point due to Zhou's fast lap.

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix:

Max Verstappen secured the fastest lap in the second round of the season. Starting from P15, Verstappen made progress through the field with the help of a Safety Car. He eventually set the fastest lap on his final tour of the circuit.

Australian Grand Prix:

Sergio Perez of Red Bull claimed both the driver of the day and fastest lap bonus point in Melbourne. He displayed excellent overtaking skills and moved up from the back of the grid to finish P5. Perez set the quickest time on lap 53.

Azerbaijan Grand Prix:

George Russell of Mercedes, running in P8, decided to pit on the penultimate lap to pursue the fastest lap and earn a bonus point. He succeeded in his mission and clocked a 1:43.370 to claim his first fastest-lap award of the season.

Miami Grand Prix:

Max Verstappen showcased his skills in Miami by starting on hard tires and executing an alternate strategy. He went from P9 to secure victory, passing his teammate Sergio Perez in the process. Verstappen sealed the full 26 points by recording the fastest lap on his penultimate tour.

Monaco Grand Prix:

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes pitted for an undercut and set the fastest lap of the race in Monaco, earning his first bonus point of the season. His time of 1:15.650 brought him close behind Carlos Sainz for Ferrari.

Spanish Grand Prix:

Max Verstappen completed a Grand Chelem for the race weekend by taking pole, leading every lap, winning the race, and securing the fastest lap. He snatched the fastest lap point away from his teammate Sergio Perez near the end of the race.

Canadian Grand Prix:

Sergio Perez achieved the fastest lap, but it provided little comfort as he lost ground in the World Championship title race against Verstappen, who also celebrated Red Bull's 100th win in Formula 1.

Austrian Grand Prix:

Verstappen had a comfortable lead in the Austrian GP and used the opportunity to make a late pit stop for soft tires and chase the fastest lap. He succeeded in setting a time of 1:07.012 on his final lap.

British Grand Prix:

Verstappen continued his dominant performance with another fastest lap point after a commanding victory. He set the fastest lap early on lap 42 with a time of 1:30.275.
