Hamilton not going "anywhere else"

Wolff confirms it too

People have been asking questions!!!! And finally, Lewis Hamilton has taken to the media to respond to those burning questions. In light of his upcoming twelve-month contract with Mercedes, the main topic of discussion is his future in Formula 1. Despite this, it is quite clear that the man is not going anywhere else.

The deal was renewed recently, in the summer of 2021 to be exact. It will take the 38-year-old British racing driver through to the 2023 season.

During the launch of the team's brand-new W14 contender, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff expressed “absolute” confidence as Hamilton signed a contract deal. The Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance is the Mercedes F1 racing car that was designed and constructed by the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team to compete in the 2023 Formula One World Championship. And hence, Hamilton is hoping to return to his championship days with the W14. This is despite having raced for an entire season without winning a race since the debut of his career.

When asked about a new contract and if he ever felt it was Mercedes' responsibility to prove to him that they could win again, before he actually signed the contract, he replied: "For the team, no, I don't feel like they need to prove anything to me." I think we’ve proved time and time again over the years that we have strength in depth. There are still so many talented individuals on our team. As I said, you don’t lose that ability." He added, "We’re continuing to try to improve our processes, we’re continuing to try to be smarter in how we approach things, and with our communication. I think there’s the finest harmony within the team that I’ve seen in all these years. We’ve got a real, fresh young group of engineers and people that have just come into the team over the past few months. Therefore, it’s an exciting time for the team, and I don’t plan on being anywhere else.”

Wolff added on, “I think as I said before, we’ve done a few of these contracts in the past and they change little from iteration to iteration, so it’s not usually complex apart from the obvious terms. We’ve had a first chat, but I don’t want to commit to any timeline, because it’s not important for him nor for us at that stage. It runs a full year and we’re going to find the right time.”
