Major Takeaways From Pre-Season Testing

Pre-season testing can be invaluable for teams to assess their car's performance before the start of the season, as well as to identify potential issues that need to be addressed.

It was the second day of the pre-season testing and the Bahrain International Circuit was buzzing with a lot of activity from the F1 teams. Let's look at the major takeaways…..

Red Bull’s arrangement remains inauspicious.

Max Verstappen finished his testing laps on Friday while his teammate, Sergio Perez finished all the runs on the final day of the testing. During the first thirty minutes, he was taking the lead, as he was doing superbly. However, Zhou Guanyu from Alpha Romeo, later on, overthrew him.

Everything is on track with Ferrari

Ferrari's program ran quite smoothly. Apparently, they are Red Bull's closest challengers. At the end of the day, they were already on 138 laps. The reliability improvements that have been made to the power unit will be quite handy to the team, especially over the winter, as they will give a 0.2-0.3s per lap boost.

It's all smiles at Williams

Logan Sargeant closed his pre-season with 154 laps. The 22-year-old has been doing really well. Topping the lap count table meant so much to the team, as last season they finished last. The upgrade of their team car is also a step in the right direction.

Haas in the test

Haas is quite excited as their preparations are going well and their car build is coming just along well. On the second day, their laps were standing at 135. There's bound to be a fight for points as the season is just beginning.

Mercedes remains quite hopeful despite challenges

On day two, Mercedes suffered a major loss because of an unbalanced car which caused quite significant head-scratching, before a hydraulic problem also came along. This cost George Russell and his team big time. However, Russell is quite sure that Mercedes “hasn't unlocked everything yet” and “eventually will be catching” the other teams quite soon.

Alfa Romeo changing things

Zhou ended the pre-season with a good 132 laps. The chassis on their C43 car responds well to switches and performs as per the data. Thus, the team is prospecting to lead the midfield.
